New Tourist Information Centre for Llangollen

Work by world-renowned artist, Sir Kyffin Williams OBE is featuring as part of a special exhibition to mark the official opening of the first cultural tourism, library and learning centre in Wales.

Y Capel, a restored 19th century Baptist chapel in Castle Street, Llangollen is unique as it's the first building of its kind to offer a library, art and craft gallery, tourist information centre and one stop shop all under the same roof. Moving to the new premises has allowed the Library and Information Service to expand its range of resources; in addition to the traditional books and information, it has doubled the number of computers for public use. The new building also has a meeting room available for public use, with full access for the disabled. A glass sculpture by Chris Byrd-Jones has been specially commissioned to mark the official opening of the centre which was carried out by Sir Kyffin Williams on Saturday, June 21.

The Tourist Information Centre is managed by North Wales Tourism on behalf of Denbighshire County Council. “We’re very pleased with the number of visitors to the new centre” said Steven Davison of North Wales Tourism, “and this wonderful new facility where a visitor can see great works of art, choose from a wide range of quality merchandise, pick up a leaflet on a visitor attraction and book their local accommodation has to be good news for Llangollen”.

Beaufort Park spreads hospitality overseas
A North Wales hotel is helping some students from overseas get to grips with Welsh hospitality.

The Beaufort Park Hotel, in New Brighton near Mold, is hosting two French students, Thibaut Toucheboeuf and Jerome Linsolas (both aged 20), who are studying degrees in Hotel Management at the Institut Vatel in Nimes.

Thibaut Toucheboeuf and Jerome Linsolas toast the Beaufort Park Hotel, the hosts of their six-month work experience placement.

The Institut Vatel is an international hotel management school with bases in China, Kuala Lumpar and Canada, as well as Paris, and their course covers such things as food production management, wine and bar management, front office operation, housekeeping operation, nutrition and food hygiene.

They have been teamed with the Beaufort Park Hotel after hearing about their positive links with education. Last year the hotel hosted placements students from Spain and there is an ongoing excellent relationship with local colleges.

The pair will be living and working at the hotel for almost six months and their visit will allow them to get hands on to experience all areas covered in their course. This ranges from hotel management, accounting, reception work and organising conferences to mucking in behind the bar and in the kitchen, waiting on and portering.
