GLASFRYN WAKEPARK

The first Wakepark in Wales is to open at Glasfryn Activity Parc near Pwllheli on Friday 16th July 2010 with a Sesitec System 2.0 cable-tow.

Wakeboarding behind the Sesitec System 2.0 is ideal for absolute beginners as well as the more experienced rider. Learners will find it easier to get on their feet than being towed behind a boat. The system has been engineered so that riders enjoy the benefit of continuous riding by making a figure of eight style turn so giving the opportunity to practice their skills without having to stop and start.

“I am delighted that we’ve been able to establish the first wakepark in Wales at Glasfryn Parc. This should be a real boost for North Wales. To ensure we’ve had the best professional guidance, we’ve worked closely with the team at Alliance Wakeboard, the leading experts in the wakeboarding industry.” Commented Jonathan Williams Ellis, owner of Glasfryn Parc.

“The perfect conditions provided by the fresh-water lake at Glasfryn Parc, which is protected by mature trees, means that this is the ideal location to learn how to wakeboard. No need to rely on a boat or waiting for perfect conditions at sea. The cable can be used whatever the weather and is the most accessible way to get into wakeboarding. Wakeboarding is one of the fastest growing sports and I’m delighted that visitors to Glasfryn Parc can now try this for themselves.” He continued.

Glasfryn Wakeparc is committed to providing great wakeboarding for complete beginners and experienced riders alike. There are two fantastic obstacles in place for the more experienced rider to try out their skills.

For those looking to learn air tricks, there is a ramp....And Glasfryn Parc is delighted to have the Relentless Leviathan rail.... the very one that was used by the pro-riders in Wakestock 2010.

Wakeboarding is a great sport for almost everyone. The minimum age for particpants at the Glasfryn Wakeparc is 8yrs and must be a competent swimmer.

Full instruction is given by a British Water Ski Federation qualified and experienced wakeboarding professional to make sure riders feel at ease and gradually build their confidence in a non-intimidating and relaxed atmosphere. Wetsuit, wakeboard, vest and helmet hire are all included and full changing facilities with showers.

All users will wear a wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet. There is also a safety boat on the lake, as well as firstaid trained staff.

The cost is £20 per person for a 1 hour session and includes hire of equipment (wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmet, board) and a hot shower (please bring your own towel). Each session lasts for an hour with a maximum of four riders. Riders need to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start time in order to give them time to get kitted up. First session of the day starts at 10am.

Booking is recommended to avoid disappointment but you can just rock up and ride (depending on availability). Visitors are welcome to just go along to watch. To book your session, please call 01766 810202 or email info@glasfryn.co.uk. For further information: www.glasfryn.co.uk

Note to Editors: The System 2.0 is essentially a straight-line cable system that can compliment full size cable park setups for events or as stand-alone rail parks. And unlike other two tower systems, System 2.0 was designed specifically for wake sports and provides a continuous ride—meaning that you won’t have to drop the handle or stop after one pull down the rail course

SHEARWATER COASTAL CRUISES

Shearwater Coastal Cruises based in Pwllheli Marina, offer cruises along the North Wales coast and offshore islands of the Llyn Peninsula, visiting seal and seabird colonies, and are often visited by the local dolphins!

Alan Gray, the proprietor is delighted to announce the arrival of his new 50 feet long and almost 18 feet wide catamaran 'Shearwater' and adds “with an operating weight in excess of 20 tons, she is very stable, particularly as she is a catamaran, she is unique and there is nothing elsewhere in the UK that can compare with her.

We have a forward viewing platform on the fore-deck, where people can simply stand by the forward rails of the boat and look down on bow-riding dolphins. We have twin decks, so we can seat 10 people on the stern deck and 10 people above them on the fly-deck. The lounge is huge with comfortable seating for people who don't want to be outside. The huge picture windows enable people in the lounge to just relax and view the passing scenery, wildlife and anything else in view, so the less energetic can just sit, watch and enjoy. We have underwater TV cameras, to enable people in the lounge to watch the bow-riding dolphins on our large TV monitor from an underwater perspective. We have a separate galley on the boat and provide complimentary tea and coffee on every cruise (you have never tasted a better cup of tea than one at sea) and we even provide the biscuits!”

The new "Shearwater" is the first 'Class VI' passenger vessel to be built in the U.K. for 4 years, and therefore incorporate all the extra safety measures and level access through the stern-gates allows easy access for wheelchair users.

GREENWOOD FOREST PARK

***1,200 YEARS OF WELSH POETRY SET IN STONE AT GREENWOOD FOREST PARK***

Minister for Heritage and Culture, Alun Ffred Jones, was on hand to cut the green ribbon at the official opening of GreenWood Forest Park’s latest attraction this weekend.

Cerrig y Cerddi – Poets’ Corner – features 16 huge slabs of slate engraved with verses from some of the best Welsh poetry of the last 1,200 years. The slate was sourced from Penrhyn Quarry in Bethesda, while the poems, on the themes of nature and nationhood, were mostly selected by Myrddin ap Dafydd of Gwasg Carreg Gwalch, who has himself won a Bardic Chair at the National Eisteddfod. The verses were then carefully engraved onto the stones by Maricraft Slate World in Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Guests at the launch enjoyed a reading by Myrddin ap Dafydd, whose poem ‘Tyfu’n un’ is among those engraved at Poets’ Corner, and a performance by Llansadwrn Church Choir. Though a departure from the usual forest fun to be found at GreenWood, this latest attraction is in keeping with the eco-friendly ethos of the Park and will offer visitors a spot of tranquillity away from the rides and activities. Minister Alun Ffred Jones said: “I'm full of admiration for GreenWood’s vision; [Poets’ Corner] is a great way to give people a glimpse of Wales's rich poetic tradition. The setting and layout of the site is also superb”. Myrddin ap Dafydd added: “I always thought that the idea was a very good one, but the way it has turned out is fantastic. The location still comes back to me in my dreams! What we need now are other poetry circles at other locations – I think GreenWood might have really started a new branch to the old tradition”.
